4. Rainwater management at the plot level
In addition to hurricanes and storms, climate change, due in particular to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, is causing sudden heavy rainfall. Stormwater can either run off into the countryside, with the risk of carrying debris and pollutants on sealed surfaces (roads, parking lots), which it then carries into the water table, or it can reach excessive volume and cause flooding. Or it is collected in collective networks, which are then rapidly clogged, also leading to flooding. In many cases, stormwater is not collected separately, and interferes with the operation of downstream wastewater treatment plants, which are primarily designed to treat wastewater. What's more, the more stable the water characteristics and flow rate, the better a treatment plant functions.
