10. Compatibility with sealants for PVB laminated glass (source: CIVF)
Installing laminated glass requires certain precautions in terms of the type of sealant used.
In fact, some delamination problems stem from incompatibility between sealants and PVB, which can be due to various causes:
the low molecular weight of the product released during sealant drying can adversely affect the PVB interlayer;
plasticizers, solvents and other ingredients can leach into the interlayer and cause defects;
sealants in which PVB plasticizers are soluble can cause these plasticizers to migrate from the edge of the spacer into the sealant.
