3. Wall-to-–-to-floor interface

This section analyzes the connection between the straw-insulated wall and the interior ground floor (concrete slab, suspended wood floor, or a combination of both). This interface is critical because it must meet three simultaneous requirements:

  • thermal continuity;

  • continuity of the airtight seal;

  • secure transmission of vertical and horizontal loads.

A failure in this area can affect energy performance, the durability of the bottom rail, and regulatory compliance (RE2020). In straw-based construction, these requirements take on particular significance due to the bio-based, fibrous, and hygroscopic nature of the insulation material.
