3. Oxidized bitumen-based multilayer coatings

3.1 Area of use

Oxide bitumen ( NF EN 13304 ) is a material used as a bonding bitumen for felts and underlayments with a minimum grade of 85/25.

These coatings were commonly used for waterproofing before the development of modified bitumen in the 1970s.

The elongation at yield was very low (< 1%), so they had to be reinforced with reinforcement and uncoupled from the substrate.

Their poor performance led to their almost complete disappearance in the 1990s in favor of modified bitumen.

This material is being used again, mainly in Canada, where it has undergone a number of tests.
