3. Protecting against external noise

The best way to protect a building from external noise is to reinforce the acoustic insulation of the roof and facades, prescribe thermo-acoustic bay windows and doors, install acoustic air inlets... For acoustic insulation, the insulation material is chosen according to its sound reduction index. Insulation must be continuous to avoid sound bridges, the weak points through which noise arrives.

3.1 Roof soundproofing

In new-build homes, the roof is usually heavily insulated. Because warm air is lighter than cold air and rises naturally, heat loss can account for 25% to 30% of that of an uninsulated house. The thickness of thermal insulation is therefore important: between 20 and 50 cm to obtain a thermal resistance (R) of between 8 and 12 m ...
