5. Reduce noise from equipment

Equipment noise can be emitted by boilers, heat pumps, ventilation systems, elevator machinery, pipes, toilet flushes... They can be transmitted both by air, in the room where they are installed or through ducts, and by solid-borne sound through the structure of the building. The sound pressure level emitted by equipment depends first and foremost on the equipment chosen and the precautions taken when installing it on the floor and, above all, on the walls.

In residential buildings, noise generated by equipment located indoors must not exceed a certain sound pressure level in the main rooms (35 dB(A)) and in utility rooms such as the kitchen (50 dB(A)). Equipment located outdoors must not exceed a level of 30 dB(A) for main rooms and 35 dB(A) for utility rooms.
