5. Glossary

Anti-slip

Two standards exist for classifying non-slip tiles:

  • that which refers to barefoot adhesion on wet tiles (water) for use in bathrooms or around swimming pools. The rating goes from A to C, in ascending order of tile adhesion;

  • that which refers to the grip of shod feet on tiles sprinkled with slippery liquid. The classification ranges from "R9" to "R13" for truly non-slip coverings, meaning tiles with a fairly rough surface.

For domestic tiles, there's no need to go beyond the "R11" rating; tiles rated "R12" and "R13" are used for factory floors.

Slate

It's a shale rock, impermeable and resistant. It can be found in all shades of gray.
