INTRODUCTION
In this article, after defining the criteria for the graphic representation of staircase plans, we'll look at the Blondel formula for calculating different types of construction. This formula is used in standards and in various staircase calculation guides.
Depending on the configuration of the staircase and its position in space, the designer is obliged to adapt the design of the steps, while maintaining the minimum dimensions imposed by the calculation rules.
Nowadays, computer-aided design makes it possible to calculate step dimensions and numbers almost automatically, depending on the height to be climbed. In some cases, however, it's still necessary to work the old-fashioned way, especially when renovating old buildings or sites classified as Bâtiments de France.
Whatever the method, it's always useful to know the basic calculations.
