3. Insulating materials

3.1 Mineral insulation

Mineral insulation materials are made from volcanic rock, sand or recycled glass. The best-known are glass wool and rock wool. Also made from rock, perlite and vermiculite have lower thermal insulation performance than the two wools, and are mainly used for specific insulation work (laying a dry slab, for example).
