1.1 Marketing of ATEX equipment

Since July 1 2003, the ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) Directive 94/9/EC has been mandatory throughout the European Union. It concerns the marketing of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. It is a so-called New Approach Directive, the aim of which is to define only essential requirements to enable equipment to be placed on the market.

To place equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres on the European Union market, the manufacturer, or those who assemble equipment from different sources, must comply with the requirements of Directive 94/9/EC. CE and ATEX markings are shown in figure...
