3. The contribution of FPGAs to electrical machine control

The migration from the sequential mode of operation of standard digital solutions to the parallel mode of operation of FPGAs is a new degree of freedom offered to designers. This degree of freedom has proved beneficial in the field of electrical machine control, and has made it possible to meet modern control requirements [1] . Thanks to the specific characteristics of FPGAs, it is possible to :

  • improve control performance; the computing speed of FPGAs increases the bandwidth of control loops and improves time resolution. ;

  • implement complex algorithms; as technology advances, the integration rate of FPGA components continues to increase. Today, the density of FPGA components can reach the equivalent of 10 million logic gates...
