2.1 How it works

The Alkaline Fuel Cell (AFC) is a hydrogen/oxygen (air) fuel cell operating with an alkaline liquid electrolyte, usually concentrated potash (30-45% KOH by mass). Its sister cell, the Anion Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell ( – AEMFC), operates according to the same reactions, but uses an anionic polymer membrane instead of an alkaline liquid electrolyte (see article [D 3 340] ).
