2. Different fuel cell technologies

2.1 Presentation

Different fuel cell families have been developed. Hydrogen/oxygen (air) fuel cells are classified according to the nature of the electrolyte (table 1 ).

The main applications envisaged, with the corresponding electrical power, are as follows:

1. decentralized power generation (up to a hundred megawatts) ;

2. industrial or centralized cogeneration (up to 50 MW) ;

3. tertiary cogeneration (up to 250 kW) ;

4. single-family cogeneration (1 to 10 kW) ;

5. powering isolated sites (10 to 200 kW) ;

6. backup and quality (up to 200 kW) ;
