3.1 High-temperature or high-molecular-weight hydrocarbons
High-molecular-weight hydrocarbons (HMWH) or high-temperature hydrocarbons (HTH) are derivatives of various natural resources, such as crude oil, natural gas and other fossil fuels. They refer to hydrocarbon molecules with large molecular structures made up of carbon and hydrogen atoms. These hydrocarbons have higher molecular weights and are generally found in long chains or complex cyclic structures.
These fluids have excellent dielectric and lubricating properties, as well as higher boiling points and molecular weights than mineral oil, resulting in significantly higher flash points. However, due to their higher viscosity, the heat transfer capabilities of HMWH are somewhat reduced
