INTRODUCTION
Mica is of considerable importance to the electrical industry, due to the special properties associated with this material: excellent temperature resistance, high dielectric strength, remarkable chemical inertness, low losses at all frequencies.
Although it continues to be the material of choice, the basis of medium and high-voltage insulation systems, the technologies for its use have not ceased to evolve over the years, both to meet demands for improved performance and to rationalize or reduce costs, taking advantage of the new possibilities offered by mechanization.
This development has led to the gradual, and now almost total, abandonment of mica used in the form of cleavages in favor of mica paper, whose production plants have multiplied around the world, often located close to mica deposits.
