    In the first part of this article, we present our methodological approach to electromechanical actuator design problems. This approach is based on the combination of a modeling step, which first defines a tool for solving the direct design problem, and optimization methods and algorithms. After defining design problems as inverse problems, we show how they can be reformulated as continuous or mixed optimization problems with constraints.
