4. Future outlook and technological trends

4.1 The end of silicon cells?

The silicon value chain is now firmly established. The end of silicon cells is therefore not on the horizon and they are likely to remain in use for at least the next ten years. Indeed, this technology has no competitor capable of rivalling it in terms of efficiency, durability, and large-scale industrialization.

It is also likely that technology will continue to advance toward the theoretical limit of silicon, which is probably not far from 29%. Three technological architectures are competing for this (TOPCON, IBC, HTJ), and it is difficult to say what market share each will capture (see figure
