2. Thermal modeling tools

2.1 Introduction

Thermal modeling tools are increasingly used for the design of new machines associated with non-sinusoidal power supplies. A validated software tool provides access to points that cannot be reached experimentally. Similarly, simulations of behavior in extreme situations (high loads and severe ambient conditions) do not jeopardize a real motor.

The validation of these tools is particularly complex. Experimentation and simulation are totally inseparable. Figure 3 shows why it is preferable to combine two experimental phases with two simulation phases to calibrate a model.
