2. Powerful network operation

A powerful electrical network generally comprises a large number of three-phase generators, connected to each other by transformers and three-phase lines, the lines serving both for this connection and for transporting the power to the points of consumption. This assembly forms a very high-power, reversible voltage source operating at fixed voltage and frequency. It also imposes its voltage and frequency on any element of relatively low power connected to it. We're going to study the behavior of the synchronous machine connected to this assembly, which can then operate as a generator or motor. To simplify the study, we assume that the armature resistance is negligible and that the machine operates in the unsaturated state.
