4. Modeling

To design an electromagnet optimally, it is necessary to use a modeling tool. This generally involves the numerical resolution (finite elements, for example) of the field equations describing the physical phenomena and their coupling. Software based on this type of method is generally equipped with tools to facilitate data entry and the exploitation of results.

4.1 From mathematical model to design software

An electromagnetic induction system (electromagnet) can be represented schematically by a set of three objects: the inductor (copper conductor), the load (conductive and/or magnetic material) and the surrounding space (electrical insulator, etc.) (figure 11 )....
