6. Appendix: Three-phase Networks Under Fault Conditions

6.1 General Information

This appendix is not a treatise on the calculation of short-circuit currents. Its purpose is to present certain electrical parameters that are characteristic of faults in power systems and are commonly used by many protective devices to detect them.

Multiphase systems, particularly three-phase systems, are studied in detail in this treatise, in the section "Passive and Active Linear Multipoles in Harmonic Operation" [D 66A] . The theory of symmetrical components is presented in the works referenced at [4][5][6]...
