4. Relais wischer

4.1 History

Wischer relays are of German origin. The term literally means "windscreen wiper", as this type of relay is able to detect "fugitive" faults. They were originally designed for use on neutral-compensated networks operating with a maintained fault, to identify the faulty feeder in the event of an earth fault.

When an earth fault occurs on this type of network, at the moment of its appearance, the charging of the capacitances of the two healthy phases through the fault will lead to :

  • the passage of a large current in the faulty phase of the faulty feeder, which is in fact the load current of the two healthy phases of the network;
