4. The alternator voltage source – its limits

As we saw in section 2 , in the structure of the transmission grid, high-power synchronous alternators (P > 50 MW) are the main source of voltage.

In the following, we will describe a simplified electrical diagram of the synchronous alternator in steady state, in order to understand its impact on voltage regulation. The various operating limits of the alternator will then be explained.
