3. Surface wave filters (SAW)

3.1 A brief history of surface wave devices

The history of surface wave devices began in 1965 with the invention of the interdigital quartz comb by White and Voltmer [1] . The study of surface waves dates back to 1885, when Lord Rayleigh [2] was interested in earthquakes.

The first applications of SAW devices were reserved for the military and professional sectors. The products were delay lines, dispersive delay lines for radar applications, convoluters...
