9. SER measurement

9.1 Issues

After the design and implementation phase comes validation. This raises the problem of measuring the electromagnetic field diffracted by an object in order to deduce its SER. Since this is calculated from fields at infinity, it is necessary to take the measurement at a location where the wave fronts are sufficiently flat.

There are two possibilities for this:

  • long-distance measurement;

  • closed-chamber measurement.
