3. European Organization

3.1 Standardization

European standardization structures developed in the 1960s according to a pattern that almost exactly mirrors the international context. In 1985, the European Commission developed its "New Approach" policy on the basis of harmonized standards giving presumption of conformity to the essential requirements of the "New Approach" directives.

The application of standardization enables markets to develop, since standards are references for equipment and performance criteria. This context facilitates the emergence, in Europe, of a vast market governed by the same reference system.

International standardization, on the other hand, is not bound by any regulations.
