Historical overview

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is both a very old and a very new profession. Very old, because the coupling between communication lines used to transmit messages in Morse code dates back to 1838. These couplings, which resulted in interfering sounds in the receiver of the adjoining line, gave rise to what was soon called "crosstalk".
