2. Types of realization
After presenting CMOS technology, the realization of elementary gates in this technology and the energy problems linked to the evolution of successive CMOS generations, it is necessary to dwell on the major classes of circuits that use elementary gates, as well as the different design methods.
2.1 Circuit classes
To realize a given function, there is a spectrum of possible approaches according to different criteria, the main ones being :
speed ;
dissipation ;
surface ;
wired or programmed execution.
