4. Manganese-zinc ferrites and their applications

Manganese-zinc ferrites are the most important soft ferrites in the industry, accounting for around 70% of worldwide sales. Their main applications are at high power levels, where the material will transfer or store electrical energy in magnetic form, and at low levels, where the material will transmit low-amplitude signals with or without modification.

4.1 Mn-Zn ferrite for power applications

The so-called power applications of Mn-Zn ferrites concern electrical energy conversion (DC-DC converters, switch-mode power supplies). In these applications, Mn-Zn ferrites are preferred over metallic magnetic materials (iron-silicon, iron-nickel or amorphous laminations) whenever the operating frequency exceeds one kilohertz.
