1. General

Transformers and inductors belong to the family of passive components, and are used in all areas of electronics.

In this article, we will confine ourselves to the consumer and professional sectors, which account for 70% of the value of the French free and captive winding market (table 1 ).

The fields of distribution (transformers rated at over 10 kW and working at industrial frequencies) and high frequency (> 2 MHz) are covered respectively in the specialized articles of the Electrical Engineering treatise.
