4.1 MPTCP: a few reminders
MPTCP (Multipath TCP) was first proposed in 1995 to meet the requirements of a context where a terminal has the ability to connect to the network via several interfaces. In particular, the MPTCP protocol meets the need to ensure session continuity (transparently for the user) in the event of terminal mobility. Other similar proposals were subsequently documented (e.g. TCP-MH) but were not adopted for various reasons.
Since TCP connections are identified by an IP address and a port number, any change in this identification information is likely to penalize the operation of a TCP connection in progress, and hence the service using said TCP connection.
