6. Technical aspects

6.1 Image analysis

The image analyzer is a piece of equipment that translates the information presented on the original document, usually paper, into electrical signals.

Electronic channels can only convey information that depends on the single variable "time" (like sound, for example).

For faxing, the original image is a two-dimensional surface. It must therefore be converted into one-dimensional information. To do this, it is broken down into lines, and each line is divided into points (called pixels) transmitted sequentially in time. This is the serialization function (see figure 1 ).
