3. Increased MTTF – High availability

In the previous section (§ 2 ), we detailed the various convergence mechanisms relating to routing protocols within a network. To reduce packet losses due to rerouting, high availability techniques implemented on IP routers try to mask certain failures from other routers in the network. The underlying principle is to use redundant architectures to compensate for different types of failure.
