2. Transport network evolution towards packet technologies

A mobile operator's network deployment strategy is not limited to the choice of transmission technology. Numerous parameters may come into play, such as radio technologies, radio site density, traffic to be carried... The choice may also differ depending on whether the mobile operator deploys its own transport infrastructures (typical of so-called convergent operators offering fixed and mobile services on their own networks) or whether the mobile operator depends on a transport service offered by a third-party operator. In the first case, the choice of transport network is more in line with the operator's overall network evolution strategy.
