The DO-178C/ED12C standard is generally the benchmark for embedded software development in the aerospace industry. It defines five levels of software criticality called DAL (Development Assurance Level), ranging from A (most critical) to E (least critical). The closer the DAL level is to A, the greater the number of requirements.
