7. Cloud computing and security

All surveys show that security is the major concern of organizations in the process of adopting Cloud technologies. The questions are numerous, such as:

• How much confidence can we have in data storage outside the company?

• what are the risks associated with using shared services?

• how to demonstrate compliance with operating standards?

Cloud infrastructures are gigantic, complex systems. They can, however, be reduced to a small number of simple primitives that are instantiated thousands of times, and a few common functions. Cloud security is therefore a governable problem that is less complex than it seems.
