7. Conclusion

This brief introduction has given us an overview of the techniques available for using Linux in an embedded environment. However, choosing an open-source solution is not miraculous, and despite the absence of direct licensing costs, costs will have to be incurred for developer training or assistance with project follow-up, specific tools (such as Yocto) or the development of certain complex components such as peripheral drivers. Let's not forget that the concept of open source software is first and foremost about the freedom to redistribute source code, well before it is about being free. In this respect, we can't stress enough the subject of free licenses (GPL, LGPL), which must be taken into account right from the start of the project, otherwise there may be unpleasant surprises when the product is released.
