6. Software and operating systems for embedded systems

6.1 Specific features of embedded software

As with all software development, embedded system designers use assemblers, compilers and debuggers to develop software for these systems. Software tools can come from a variety of sources:

  • companies specializing in software for embedded systems;

  • developments from the GNU ;

  • development tools for personal computers, when the processor used is close to one used in PCs.
