3. Remote banking and authentication

Remote banking services make life easier for bank customers, whether they are individuals, professionals or businesses. The efficiency of these services, and the fact that they can be accessed from any location, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, mean considerable time and productivity savings for customers and bankers alike.

But this ease of access for the legitimate user must go hand in hand with rigorous control of this access to avoid intrusion by dishonest or malicious persons. It is therefore essential to authenticate customers who log on to their online banking account. Similarly, customers must be able to authenticate their bank's server, and avoid being tricked by phishers [4].
