IP traffic in transit can be the target of malicious attacks , including :
IP sniffing. A malicious person positions himself at a point on the network and starts "listening" to the traffic being exchanged. To carry out this attack, it is usually necessary to introduce a protocol analyzer onto a network, which will enable communications to be spied on and confidential information in transit, such as passwords, to be recovered. Another solution is to modify the behavior of network equipment (e.g. IP router) so as to retrieve a copy of certain flows to a machine chosen by the eavesdropper;
