8. Conclusion

We have given just a brief overview of the possibilities offered by carbonylation reactions in terms of their main industrial applications. The recent industrial development over the last fifteen years of new carbonylation processes (propanediol, butanediol, polyketones, ibuprofen...) and the numerous research projects carried out on carbonylation reactions demonstrate the importance of this reaction. The abundance and low cost of carbon monoxide make it a reagent of choice for the synthesis of the major basic products of organic chemistry. New industrial units using carbonylation reactions will undoubtedly develop in the future.
