2. Advantages of CFLs over bubbling fluidized beds
Circulating operation is a logical extension of the industrial trend of recent decades. This trend can be summed up in the idea of bringing as much gas as possible into contact with the solid. So, as more and more gas was introduced into the first-generation bubbling fluidized beds, it was necessary to find a way of recovering the particles that had flown out and returning them to the fluidized bed. As it happens, conventional particle recovery techniques (mainly standard cyclones) are quickly overwhelmed by the scale of the high-speed gas entrainment phenomenon. The same applies to solid-return devices, simple return legs plunging into the suspension (see article ) whose operation is severely disrupted at high gas velocities. These limitations have forced manufacturers to rethink the design of conventional systems, leading them to the current configurations...
