4. Performance criteria

4.1 In scheduling

The quality of a scheduling solution is based on three main sets of criteria.

  • Product-oriented" criteria based on completion times :

    • minimization of total manufacturing time or makespan ;

    • minimizing maximum product residence time;

    • minimizing average product residence times.

  • Equipment-oriented" criteria based on equipment inventory and use:

    • equipment utilization rate ;

    • the number of work-in-progress (WIP) ;
