8. Other separators

Numerous other types of separator, often a variant of the main types considered in the previous paragraphs, have been proposed.

• Cross-flow filtration

  In this system (figure 35 ), which is similar to ultrafiltration, only part of the gas passes through a filter medium. The particles are first collected on the media, then rearranged in the form of aggregates, which are more easily separated by a cyclone. This idea, put forward by researchers at the University of Haute-Savoie, has been taken up by the CEA. It has not yet been implemented on a large scale.
