5. Addition of HF or fluorine to double or triple bonds

The addition of HF to olefinic hydrocarbons (or alkenes) is generally very straightforward and already takes place at low temperatures and in the absence of a catalyst [5] . The addition follows Markovnikov's rule and therefore, with the exception of ethylene, does not lead to products with CCH2F groups. .
