4. SGP process applications

The SGP process was developed in the 1950s. Since then, 150 Shell gasification units have been built, representing a total production capacity of 65 × 10 6 Nm 3 / d of (CO + H 2 ). Since 1981, the Lurgi company has been marketing the SGP process under exclusive license.

The great flexibility of operating conditions offers a wide variety of applications, presented in Box 1. With the exception of the use of syngas as town gas, all these applications are commercialized.
