4. Axial mixing models. Height of differential devices

4.1 Type of axial mixture

The study of mixing phenomena is of great importance for the calculation of chemical reactors, and has been considerably developed in this field. In the case of a transfer operation, the problem is made more complex by the presence of a dispersed phase whose behavior is different from that of the continuous phase.

  • Mixing of the continuous phase remains analogous to that observed in single-phase flow. Velocity distribution may deviate from a uniform distribution due to the existence of stagnant zones or preferential paths
