3.1 Choice of laser and ablation protocol

The removal of a sample using a laser relies on the energy of photons, whose wavelength must be in the ultraviolet (UV) range (100 nm <  λ  < 400 nm), in order to remove material by breaking chemical bonds rather than melting it.
