     INTRODUCTION

L he main types of mixer are described in the first paragraph: firstly, batch mixers, without going back to the tanks agitated by proximity mobiles already described in the theoretical section , then continuous mixers, in particular static devices for which certain performance correlations are available. In the second paragraph, two examples of numerical calculations of mixers are presented: the first concerns a reactor equipped with a helical mobile, a system for which the numerous published scientific data are used and criticized; in the second case, it concerns continuous static mixers for which only the correlations provided by the equipment manufacturers are available. The last paragraph covers a few concepts concerning the mixer environment: feeding, emptying and safety aspects.
