2.1 Synthesis of the majority monomer

1,1-Dichloroethylene is obtained by alkaline dehydrochlorination of 1,1,2-trichloroethane, itself produced by addition of a chlorine molecule to monochloroethylene (vinyl chloride), according to the reactions shown in figure 1 .
